Telluride Blues & Brews Festival
Think Green

Recycling and Composting

In cooperation with our vendors, Sysco, and the town of Telluride, the Telluride Blues & Brews Festival provides festival attendees the opportunity to recycle and compost nearly everything you would want to throw away. When you arrive at the festival, you'll find six recycling and compost centers located throughout the festival grounds and one in the campground. A volunteer will be on hand to make sure the right items go into the correct containers. The recycling and compost centers are funded in part by a grant from the Telluride Council for Arts & Humanities. As it gets dark, solar power will illuminate the centers with lights and batteries courtesy of Veritas Solar. If you want to find out more about our efforts to become a zero-waste festival, please visit our environmental tent located just inside the entrance to the festival grounds. Thank you for helping us keep the Telluride Blues & Brews Festival green!

This year's festival is 100% carbon neutral!

Telluride Blues & Brews Festival is pleased to have joined Eco-Tunes, the first comprehensive program for carbon neutral music tours and events created by Green Mountain Energy Company and Sustainable Waves.

Telluride Blues & Brews Festival is taking a stand against global warming by making this year's festival 100% carbon neutral. We are offsetting the carbon dioxide emissions created by the festival's generators and electricity usage as well as our staff's air travel and vehicle based emissions for the event. This year we will be offsetting 26 metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, a harmful gas that is the leading cause of global warming. To put this in perspective, this is like not driving your car over 63,600 miles or the annual carbon absorption of more than 3,440 trees.

After the festival, keep an eye out to receive more information about how many tons of carbon dioxide all the Telluride Blues & Brews fans helped avoid this year. Together we can help make a difference and fight global warming.

Upgrade your Telluride Blues & Brews Festival ticket to a “Green Ticket” for only $3.00.

Here's how it works . . . when you upgrade to a Green Ticket, Green Mountain Energy Company will green-up your festival experience by providing, on your behalf, 300 kWh of renewable energy made from sources like wind and bio-energy. By purchasing a Green Ticket, you can help offset an estimated 341 lbs of carbon dioxide created by activities like driving your car to the festival. Upgrade to a Green Ticket for the Telluride Blues & Brews Festival and offset some of your environmental impact!  For more information, please visit http://www.greenmountain.com.

When customers purchase a Green Mountain Energy Green Ticket online, a portion of the costs will automatically go to purchase renewable energy credits. When you buy your Telluride ticket, check the “Offset Your Carbon Impact Now” option and Green Mountain will purchase 300 kWhs of renewable power on your behalf.

We are setting a goal this year to sell 2,000 green tickets. Reaching this goal will have the same positive environmental impact as not driving a car almost 1 million miles, recycling over 300,000 lbs of newspaper, or planting over 40,000 trees.

Individually, each green ticket offsets the equivalent of 339 pounds of CO2 avoided. That’s like not driving your car 433 miles, recycling 160 pounds of newspaper, or planting 24 trees.

At the Telluride Blues & Brews Festival, we understand that there is an emissions footprint associated with our business operations. That is why we are partnering with Green Mountain Energy Company, for the 3rd year in a row, to take a leadership role in calculating and offsetting 100% of the total calculated carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions associated with the 2009 Telluride Blues and Brews Festival. This continued commitment to the environment offsets the CO2 emissions created by last year’s festival’s on-site generators, electricity usage, and staff travel and festival vehicles.

To neutralize these emissions we purchased Green Mountain Energy® Offsets sourced from Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS) certified methane capture projects across the United States. This year we will be offsetting 60 metric tons of CO2 emissions, a harmful gas that is the leading cause of global warming. To put this in perspective, this is like not driving your car almost 120,000 miles or the annual carbon absorption of about 200 trees.

About Green Mountain Energy

Austin, Texas-based Green Mountain is the nation’s leading retail provider of cleaner energy and carbon offset solutions. The company began in 1997 with a simple idea: “to change the way power is made”. The company entered the renewable electricity market with the belief that if given a choice, consumers will choose cleaner electricity products using renewable sources such as wind, solar, water, geothermal, and biomass, over electricity made from polluting fossil fuels. These cleaner energy sources help reduce the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) emitted into the air. Since 1999, Green Mountain customers have collectively helped avoid over 9.8 billion lbs. of carbon dioxide emissions and have been responsible for helping to deliver more than six billion kilowatt-hours of renewable energy into the market. Additionally, Green Mountain’s customers have helped spur the development of 40 new wind and solar facilities across the nation, which are producing pollution-free power. For more information, visit www.greenmountain.com.

The consensus among our world's climate scientists concludes that carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from human activities like electricity production and transportation are indisputably the leading cause of global warming. Sustainable Waves - powered by Green Mountain Energy Company is rippling throughout the entertainment industry creating some simple effective ways for all of us to participate in the effort to do something to address this growing threat.

One of the ways you can offset your carbon footprint is by purchasing renewable energy credits (RECs). RECs are an innovative means to offset the carbon emissions impact on the environment associated with activities like electricity consumption. Each Green Mountain Energy Green Ticket will include with it the environmental attributes of 300 kWh of electricity produced using renewable resources, such as wind, solar, or bio-energy. The generation of electricity from cleaner renewable energy sources displaces electricity that might otherwise come from burning polluting fossil fuels like coal and oil. It is in this way that the purchase of renewable energy helps offset conventional electricity generation and the associated emissions that contribute to global warming. By putting dollars behind these new renewable sources of energy, you help bring more of them online, which means less energy needs to be generated using dirty fossil fuels. The net result? Carbon offsets that reduce your carbon footprint.
