There’s something about Texas that’s perfect for the blues. From Kilgore, a little dot on the map in East Texas, comes Ally Venable. If you’ve never heard her music before, fasten your seatbelts. She makes her Les Paul cry and moan and her voice will move you to the marrow. You’ll hear an early – and obvious – influence in those Stevie Ray-like runs and with mentor Kenny Wayne Shepherd guiding her bright light, she’s destined for guitar glory. Just 23, she’s got Buddy Guy and Joe Bonamassa on her latest record, Real Gone on Ruf Records, a testament to the talent those renowned axe-slingers see in her. She’s touring this year with Buddy and Kenny Wayne, and by the time she hits our stage, she’ll be firing on all cylinders. Ally is, as Mike Zito proclaimed, “the future of blues and the crossover music of American roots-rock.” Right before your eyes and ears.
