2021 Fais Do-Do: Closing Celebration
Sunday, September 19 | North Mississippi Allstars | Sheridan Opera House
The 2021 festival weekend ends with a special closing celebration show from North Mississippi Allstars at the historic Sheridan Opera House on Sunday, September 19. The doors open at 8:30 pm and the show starts at 9:00 pm. Tickets are on sale now and very limited (less than 30 tickets left).
History
Fais Do-Do roughly translates to "Cajun dance party". The parties were named for the gentle command ('go to sleep') young mothers offered bawling infants so that they could get back out and dance with their husbands before someone else did. This is the final show of the festival weekend and shortly thereafter, everyone will get some sleep! This show is a highlight for many and one you won't want to miss.
North Mississippi Allstars
“Transcending time and space, music reaches out into the dark of night like the wisteria vine, looking for free-hearted souls to latch onto and wedge into the foundations of hate, slowly tearing down walls a generation at a time.”
These are the words of NMA guitarist Luther Dickinson and he speaks for us all. We free-hearted souls were, for what seemed an eternity, deprived of the live music that stirs us, moves us, and yes, guides us as we transcend time and space.
Dickinson, his brother Cody, the late Carl Dufrene and Sharde Thomas are the core of NMA on their latest record, “Up and Rolling,” a musical journey born from the nearly-forgotten photographs of Texas shooter, Wyatt McSpadden. McSpadden shot the north Mississippi blues families in 1996, and his images capture R.L. Burnside, Junior Kimbrough, Otha Turner and the Dickinson’s father, Jim — they’re all gone now, but with a stellar cast of guest appearances from the likes of Mavis Staples, Jason Isbell, Duane Betts and Cedric Burnside, powerful new takes on hill country blues serve to bring the photos to life. It’s an amazing project. It transcends time and space. To have NMA back on our stage in the mountains is a journey we are so very ready to take. Discover more - read, listen and watch here.
