Lightnin Malcolm

Lightnin’ Malcolm represents new school blues, a melding of the schooling he got from the likes of R.L. Burnside, T Model Ford, Big Jack Johnson and Robert Belfour. The guitar in his hands is full-bodied and rich, somehow producing a mesmerizing bass-rhythm-lead sound from one instrument. Close your eyes and you’ll forget there’s just one guitar man up there. His latest record, Eye of the Storm, was produced by Tab Benoit on Tab’s Whiskey Bayou label, and it’s a primo offering of authentic, Hill Country blues. That’s what we’re talkin’ about! Make sure to check him out on the morning of Sunday, September 18, following the Telluride Blues Challenge Runner-Up. Malcolm will take the Elks Stage at 10:30 AM.

Telluride Blues Challenge

The Blues for Breakfast stage will host six talented solo blues finalists battling for the top spot in the Telluride Blues Challenge, the opportunity to play the Town Park Stage and other prizes. The Telluride Blues challenge accepts recorded submissions from unsigned artists located all-over the world. Local experts from the Telluride Music Company will judge the artist submissions and invite six finalists to compete in the Telluride Blues Challenge. These artists are talented, hungry and will put on a must-see show to kick off the second day of the festival.

Admission to the competition is free and featured as part of Blues For Breakfast! This event is a great way to see up-and-comers in the blues genre while starting your Saturday morning off before music starts in the festival grounds. Watch as competitors perform 20 minute sets that will be judged on the quality of their overall live performance, instrument use, vocals, and presentation.
