Telluride Acoustic Blues Competition Gives Aspiring Artists a Chance on the Main Stage

The Telluride Blues & Brews Festival presents the 13th Annual Telluride Acoustic Blues Competition during the festival's Blues for Breakfast concert held at Telluride Elks Lodge, located at 472 W. Pacific Ave. from 9:00 to 12:00pm on Saturday, September 14th. Enjoy solo performances by Acoustic Blues Competition finalists while enjoying Breakfast, Bloody Mary's, Mimosas, and a full cash bar - all for a nominal fee.

The Telluride Acoustic Blues Competition seeks talented, aspiring musicians who excel in the Blues music genre and is open to any solo acoustic performer who is not currently signed to a record label or publishing deal. The competition invites the top six entries to host Saturday's Blues for Breakfast performing three original and Blues standard songs while judged on overall live performance, presentation, use of instruments, and vocals.

Acoustic Blues finalists receive a, a new acoustic guitar, a Three-Day festival pass, a commemorative tee shirt, and a $25 gift certificate from participating sponsor Telluride Music Company, located at 201 East Colorado Ave. The winner of the 2013 competition will be awarded a $300 dollar cash prize, and an acoustic guitar valued at $1200 dollars, courtesy of Telluride Music. They will also be given the opportunity to perform a musical set on the festival's Main Stage that Saturday evening. The competition runner-up will also receive a cash prize and a Godin acoustic Guitar.

There is a 10$ submission fee to participate in the Telluride Acoustic Blues Competition. To enter, submit a clean recording of you and only you playing one or two songs, either, by CD, tape, or electronically online at sonicabids.com/TellurideBlues.

Submit a demo CD by mail and an enclosed check for $10 payable to Telluride Blues & Brews Festival to:

Be sure to include your mailing address, phone number, email, and a short bio with your demo. The deadline for submission is August 15, 2013 and remember competitors cannot be signed to a record label or publishing deal. No bands or back-up musicians are allowed - this is a solo competition only. Finalists will be notified on or before August 27, 2013.

We are also proud to announce that Sunday's Blues for Breakfast event will feature artists Low Volts and Kim Churchill.

Low Volts, a 2011 San Diego Music Award winner for 'Best New Artist' and 'Best Blues Album,' LOW VOLTS is giving the music world a much needed shock to the heart with his gritty old slide-guitar, thunderous kick drum laden with tambourines, and dark, howling vocals. LOW VOLTS creates a thick and heavy sound equivalent to a five piece band, combining a timeless mixture of rock, blues and soul. LOW VOLTS has managed to encompass the American sound in a raw and extremely unique way. Think ‘1955 meets 2055.’ ‘Early Elvis meets Evel Knievel.’

Kim Churchill is an Australian folk, rock and blues singer and musician. Churchill's style is explosive, with intricate fingerpicking, percussive beats on the body of the guitar, and two-handed tapping intertwined with an earthly stomp box, powerful harmonica melodies and soulful voice. His songwriting reflects his coastful lifestyle - growing up on the East Coast of Australia, with the surf at his front door - and his nomadic life on the road. You won't want to miss al of these wonderful performances for the 2013 Blues for Breakfast.
