Telluride Blues & Brews Festival Alum Gary Clark Jr. Nabs a Grammy
If you caught the 2013 performanace by Gary Clark Jr. at this past year's Telluride Blues & Brews Festival, there was no doubt that “Ain’t Messin ‘Round” deserved Best Rock Song of 2013. The guitar phenom won his first Grammy this year for "Best Traditional R&B" Song for Blak and Blu favorite “Please Come Home.”
Clark was classically cool in his acceptance speech, thanking his parents before his girlfriend and band, while also demonstrating a small hint of that propensity for improvisation.
“I was told I should prepare a speech, and was like, ‘Nah, I’m not going to.’ Now I wish I had,” he said.
This is the Austin native’s first Grammy Award. Originally nominated in two categories: “Best Rock Song” for “Ain’t Messin ‘Round,” as well as “Best Traditional R&B Performance” - “Please Come Home,” this marks the first time in Grammy history that a single artist has been nominated in two different genre categories simultaneously from one album in the same year.
