This down-to-earth, hardworking Louisianan is returning to Telluride. Tab Benoit’s legendary guitar playing is steeped in the musical style of the Mississippi Delta, a result of not only his innate talent, but his dedication to his instrument and his sheer love of playing. He’s been making his guitar talk since he was a teen, but he got graduate-level lessons from local cats at Baton Rouge’s Blues Box, where he played alongside local blues legends Tabby Thomas, Raful Neal, Henry Grey and others. Since those early days, the Houma native calls the road his home, logging 250-plus gigs in the course of a year. He’s also the founder of Voice of the Wetlands, a nonprofit dedicated to protecting the fragile wetlands that make up much of the Louisiana Gulf Coast. His passion is evident in every note, and his commitment to the environment makes him a hero in our book.
