Thank you to all the fans for making the last 30 years of Telluride Blues & Brews Festival so special. It’s hard to put in words how grateful we are for the support from our amazing festival community - artists, staff, partners, vendors, volunteers, breweries and most importantly the loyal attendees. Without you it would not be possible.
To our fans and festival community…
After a breathtaking and magical weekend celebrating 30 years at Telluride Blues & Brews Festival, it has come to our attention that Lyte, the company that the festival had enlisted for an after-market ticket exchange, has shut down suddenly leaving many events and their attendees without any information, including ours. These actions from Lyte are shocking and unacceptable and we are working diligently with all of our resources and industry partners to arrive at a resolution for those who used the platform to resell their tickets. As a proud independent festival, our number one priority is our fans. This has the highest level of priority and we are working around the clock to find the best solution possible. We will share all updates as soon as they become available. For any questions in the meantime, please contact us directly by using the form below. We will provide updates as information becomes available.

In response to the growing threat of the delta variant, and in addition to the measures we already have in place, proof of full vaccination or proof of a negative Covid-19 test will now be required for all festival entry. This is an important safety precaution implemented to protect our festival attendees, staff, artists, vendors, volunteers and community members. This will be the first time that some participants attend a large event since early 2020, which is why these new safety protocols have been set above and beyond what the State of Colorado requires of our event. Your cooperation and participation is appreciated. For those unvaccinated, free testing will be available.

You might be familiar with that old saying, “March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb”. Well, the beginning of March in 2020 certainly lived up to that reputation, but unfortunately, the end of March did not get the memo. We were certain that this COVID-19 craziness would settle down by September. We held on to each day and each update and watched our hopes of holding Blues & Brews fade as each day passed. Having said that, it is with tremendous sadness that I sit here forced to write what I thought I would never have to write - the 27th Telluride Blues & Brews Festival will be cancelled for 2020. This is the toughest decision I have made but without a doubt, it is the right thing to do. As we “unwind” the tremendous work that has gone into this year’s festival, the postponement is not only painful and sad, but will have a deep impact on our small, independent company. We realize that many folks are in tough position right now, so we are offering ticket-holders the options to roll tickets over for the 2021 event, donate the value of ticket purchases to help us keep our lights on, or obtain a full refund. If you’re in the position to do so, we ask that you consider a donation or rolling over your tickets to 2021 to help see the Telluride Blues & Brews Festival through these challenging times.
Guitar Player magazine writes, “Otis Taylor is arguably the most relevant blues artist of our time.” We agree. The Denver-based master of trance blues has returned to Telluride, this time with an outfit he calls the Psychedelic Banjo Posse. This will be incredible. His recorded output sees him taking an unflinching view of the African-American experience in the US, making him as much a historian as a musician. The banjo — imported to these shores from Africa during the slave trade — has always been celebrated in his music. This iteration of his musical vision will be an illuminating trip into history and Otis’ unique take on the blues.
Hailing from the tightly knit musical community of Austin, Texas, award-winning singer-songwriter Ruthie Foster has found herself duetting with Bonnie Raitt, standing on stage with the Allman Brothers at New York’s Beacon Theater, and trading verses with Susan Tedeschi. Her latest album, Joy Comes Back, described as “some folk, some blues, some soul, some rock, some gospel,” illustrates Ruthie’s genre-spanning talent. Ruthie has been nominated for three Grammys, and has won multiple Blues Music and Austin Music Awards, plus the Grand Prix du Disque from Académie Charles-Cros in France.
Ryan Bingham’s new record, American Love Songs, absolutely rocks. And it soothes, too, and it might just make you cry. His first album in four years hits the listener right in the heart. And if you like good stories, filled with characters who are — just like us — vulnerable, flawed, hopeful and determined, this new collection of songs delivers. Ryan was born in New Mexico and grew up all across Texas and the Southwest. He set out on his own at a young age, playing gigs in dive bars, traveling from one small dot on the map to the next. His wise-beyond-his-years vocals and insightful songwriting make him a beloved with critics and fans alike. Does he got the damn blues? You damn right.
The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Listening to Cedric Burnside’s dirty, growling blues brings to mind his grandpa, the great R.L. Burnside. And no surprise there- he grew up in his grandfather’s house with the extended Burnside family. His papa, the blues drummer Calvin Jackson’s influence is in place, too — Cedric is a drummer as well as a guitarist and singer-songwriter. This is real-deal electric blues — lo-fi, gritty and authentic. It’s a product of Cedric’s genes, his Southern upbringing and a deep connection to blues traditions. Cedric’s latest record, Benton County Relic, is a hypnotizing collection of songs. Fall under his spell.
Low Cut Connie is the embodiment of the notion that “rock and roll is here to stay.” The band’s roots-rock foundation is a recipe for dancing and feeling good. They are renowned for their high energy live show, so we fully expect Blues & Brews attendees kicking up the dust in front of the stage. Fronted by Adam Weiner on piano, Low Cut Connie pulses with rock and roll energy, replete with twangy guitars and yearning songs of love and heartbreak. Adam started as a solo act in New York, playing under the moniker Ladyfingers in gay clubs, karaoke bars and ballet classes. Named after a waitress who wore her tops low, Low Cut Connie has garnered critical acclaim with their earnest, driving songs that hearken back to more innocent times. No matter what you call it, it’s rock and roll and we dig it.
OK, we admit it. We’re smitten. It’s not just a passing crush, a little thang, a fickle fancy. It’s true love and we adore Samantha Fish. She had us from the get-go when she ruled the crowd in her 2016 Fred Shellman Memorial Stage debut, and we’ve invited her back every year since then. We’re so grateful she says yes! How do we love her? Let’s count the ways. Let’s start with her guitar chops. She makes the guitar cry and sing, and her solos are like riding a magic carpet through time and space. Then there’s that voice. Oh, that voice. It’s clear and pure and powerful as a springtime river. She howls and shouts and she sings sweetly with unbridled emotion.
This powerful and exciting blues guitarist is always welcome back to the mountains. He’s been playing since he was a teen in Houma, Louisiana and learned his craft from living legends playing in local clubs. Those lessons were taken to heart — his playing is expressive and nuanced, at once face melting as it is seductive. His self-penned songs and tasteful covers will take you deep into the Louisiana night where the blues runs deep and the humidity of the South keeps things greasy. This is one righteous human.
Oh, it’s big alright. Big on sound, big on blues, big on energy. That there are just the three of ‘em making a racket onstage is all the more impressive. It’s nothing short of a hoot and a holler to have the good Reverend back on our stage, along with his wife, Breezy, on washboard and Max Senteney on a stripped-down drum kit that includes a five-gallon maple syrup bucket. This is a power trio that delivers incredible musicianship featuring the Reverend’s fantastic country blues finger-picking style.
From the tiny town of Como, Mississippi, come the Como Mamas — Ester Mae Smith, Angelia Taylor, and Della Daniels — and they are bringing the good word with them. This is traditional gospel music just like they learned from the elders at the Mt. Moriah C.M.E. Church. Blues runs in the family, too: Ester Mae and Della are cousins whose grandfather, Miles Pratcher, played guitar and hosted front porch jams with anyone who’d play, including blues legend Mississippi Fred McDowell. It’s righteous and real, sung with uplifted voices driven by faith.
This band records for Stax Records, which should tell you all you need to know. This Memphis-based outfit stays as true to blues, rock, funk and soul traditions as any of its predecessors at the legendary label, but with a fresh injection of youthful energy and sheer talent. Watch the electrifying rendition of Aretha Franklin's classic song, “Rock Steady,” live from the Telluride Blues & Brews Festival Main Stage.
Anders Osborne’s music has become part of the DNA of this festival. He is a purveyor of modern electric blues, rooted firmly in the musical traditions of his adopted hometown, New Orleans. He is a festival favorite and has been on the bill since his first appearance here in 2008. It’s not Telluride Blues & Brews without Anders Osborne. Watch the energetic performance of “Back On Dumaine” live from the Telluride Blues & Brews Festival Main Stage.

From the moment the Swedish native put down roots in New Orleans after traveling the world, he has become an irreplaceable part of that city’s musical landscape. Profoundly confessional songwriting, a voice that summons forth and conquers demons, and guitar work that pierces the soul, Anders’ work is incomparable. We’ve had him play this festival more than any other artist and with good reason. His authenticity and dedication to the blues form, which he fuses with rock ferocity and his unflinching lyricism, is the gold standard of modern blues music. Watch this high energy live rendition of "Big Talk" from the 2017 Telluride Blues & Brews Festival.
“This song was written for the Peace record recorded at Dockside Studios back in 2013. The co-producer and engineer Warren Riker was a big part of that record. The song was first intended to be written about missing my dear departed mother, but I switched gear a little bit and made it about feeling sentimental. Festival Director Steve Gumble and his crew at Blues & Brews have always treated me and my bands like family. Love em!” Watch this stunning live rendition of "Sentimental Times" from the 2017 Telluride Blues & Brews Festival.
Testify! Hailed as "gospel titans" by Rolling Stone, The Blind Boys of Alabama first rose to fame in the segregated south with their thrilling vocal harmonies and roof-raising live show. Originally sprung from the halls of the Alabama Institute for the Negro Blind in the 1930s when they were just kids, Jimmy Carter was one of the original members and is still performing today. They toured and raised their voices as part of America’s Civil Rights Movement. At this stage in their impossibly long and remarkable 70+ year career, the release and tour of the new GRAMMY-nominated album, Almost Home, can’t help but feel like their swan song, or like the culmination of their long journey. Watch this stunning rendition of the timeless song "Amazing Grace" performed live at the 2017 Telluride Blues & Brews Festival.
For the uninitiated, Samantha Fish's rock and roll roots are in plain sight, and her sound fuses blues and soul into one steamy pot. With a 5-album discography spanning over the course of just six short years, her work ethic is diligent and refined. "Practice as hard and as often as you can," she says. "You can never practice enough". Her set on the Festival's Main Stage closed with an intense and passionate renditions of one of her earliest hits "Black Wind Howlin". It will be a while before you cool down after this one!
When Samantha Fish first played this festival in 2016, she won our hearts in a huge way. One song in, she kicked off her red high heels (“I’m high enough without these”), and absolutely electrified the afternoon crowd with her sizzling guitar work, soaring vocals and a red-hot band that knew no other gear than overdrive. It was nothing short of amazing and we knew without a doubt we had to invite her back. Watch Samantha's return to the mountains with a performance of "Nearer To You" of her 2017 release, "Chills & Fever", that starts out slow and soulful but gradually builds into a full-blown, masterful and fierce ending.
The 2017 Telluride Blues Challenge winner is Russ Chapman! Russ is a decidedly creative bluesman, pulling inspiration from traditional blues and the deep tradition of americana. With each performance Russ delivers a sense of melody with unique lyrical wit. Following his winning set at the Blues Challenge, Russ was able to film with Gondola Sessions on the scenic Telluride/Mountain Village gondola and chat with us. View the sessions and read the interview below.

Day two of the 24th Telluride Blues & Brews Festival showcased an array of lead guitarists with signature styles in blues and blues-adjacent music, but for the many that arrived when the gates opened, it was the sound of bagpipes that greeted them. The annual tradition signified the start of the Grand Tasting, a three hour offering of over 170 world class craft beers from 56 hand selected breweries from across the country. Con Brio's songs are about love, hope, failure, and political turmoil – life itself. A deeply talented band of seven with a horn section to keep it brassy and sassy, not only does Con Brio possess the funk, but they’ve also got love and passion covered, too. “We don’t want to walk, we don’t want to drive,” band leader Ziek McCarter says. “We want to fly. We want to levitate.” So do we.
Known for their live shows – lively, ass-shaking, throw your hands in the air pure joy, Con Brio's sound is infused with funk-rock psychedelic soul that is reminiscent of Sly and The Family Stone. Fronted by a man some swear is the second coming of none other than James Brown, Ziek McCarter moves like his back ain’t got no bone. Paradise is the name of their 2016 release and paradise is where we’re going with this exuberant band. Watch the live version of their set opener "Paradise" live from Telluride Blues & Brews Festival.
Gary Clark Jr is a mind-blowing guitarist, diverse songwriter, and a singer with power and soul. We were honored to welcome him back to the Colorado mountains for the 23rd Annual Telluride Blues & Brews Festival. Watch the live version of "Our Love" from Saturday night at the 2016 Telluride Blues & Brews Festival.
There must be something in the water in Austin, Texas. It is a fertile ground for musicians and from that rich soil of tradition, legend and camaraderie arose Austin native, Gary Clark Jr. His prodigy-level skills on guitar making him welcome on Austin’s storied stages transforming the blues and R&B into rock and roll. Watch him perform "The Healing" live from Telluride Blues & Brews Festival on Saturday, September 19th, 2016.
"Tomorrow Is Another Day" is a previously unreleased song from Anders Osborne that is sad, inquisitive and reassuring. This song feels like it was meant for acoustic, and we are stoked that he decided to debut it with our friends Gondola Sessions - let us know what you think of "Tomorrow Is Another Day" in the comments!
We just can’t get enough of Anders Osborne. He’s appeared at this festival more than any other artist and with good reason. This acoustic version of "Flower Box" is very similar to the album version, though the stripped-down style results in a track that is a minute shorter and really puts the lyrics in your face.
On this round of Gondola Sessions live from Telluride, A.J. Fullerton switched out his Dobrato for his old trusty acoustic guitar for "She's So Cold". The day Fullerton got this guitar he dropped it and gave it a nick. Since, he has added a pickup, 9V battery and control knobs, giving the guitar a unique look and sound.
Festival friend, talented artist and Montrose, Colorado native A.J. Fullerton tells a bluesy and honest tale of being "Homesick." The latest ride with Gondola Sessions features A.J. on the dobrato and Nic Clark on harmonica.
Shakey Graves is the performance name of Alejandro Rose-Garcia, a one-man act that defies categorization. He mesmerizes audiences with his seductive, spare hobo folk songs; songs that tell stories and transport the listener to a world populated by unseen segments of society. Watch this live recording of "Word of Mouth" from 2016 Telluride Blues & Brews Festival and be forever changed.
When Shakey Graves made his #TellurideBlues debut in 2014, to say that the gentleman from Texas was the talk of the festival would be an understatement. He was a one man band then but has since added additional musicians for both his live and recorded work. Clearly a festival favorite, Shakey's return to Blues & Brews was highly anticipated and ardent fans were treated to a intimate and powerful performance.
Gondola Sessions ride with Moreland & Arbuckle for a take on their song "Wrong I Do", which is the penultimate track on their album 1861. It is a relatively slow and easy song for often ruckus blues duo, but it fits them perfectly. What it lacks in speed it makes up for in soul and grit.
[Just Announced] The Durango Blues Train will take place on June 2nd & 3rd and August 18th & 19th, 2017. Stay tuned for lineup announcements mid-Winter 2017! Set your calendar reminders! Tickets will go on sale February 15th at 10:00 a.m. (MST)
"Long Did I Hide It" is a song from Moreland & Arbuckle's 2016 Alligator Records release Promised Land Or Bust. The lyrics speak of empathy, frustration and suppression, which complement the wailing harmonica on this quick blues track. Our friends Gondola Sessions captured this intimate recording live in Telluride on board the breathtaking Telluride Gondola.
Jonathon Boogie Long plays with passion on this personal take of "Dealing With The Blues." The song balances delicate guitar picking with some big open D string hits in this powerful, yet vulnerable song.
Jonathon Boogie Long held nothing back during his Gondola Sessions at the 2016 Telluride Blues & Brews Festival. Jonathon Boogie Long brought his southern blues on the gondola for this take of "Pray For Me," recorded on the Gondola. Boogie Long is known for his quick fills and solos and, despite using an acoustic guitar for the session, he did not disappoint.
Steve Itterly lost the brass slide, put a capo on his National Guitar and slowed things down to end his the last of his session with Gondola Sessions. The song "Coraline" still has a great acoustic blues feel to it, and the lyrics really cut into the feeling of heartache.
Seasons are changing fast which means it's time to swap out those summer shorts and flip flops for new sweatshirts and hoodies from the Blues & Brews online shop!
The country’s hippest radio stations caught on early to Israel Nash's mesmerizing sound – you can hear the Neil Young and 1970's electric folk influences. One listen to “Rain Plans” live from Telluride Blues & Brews Festival on Friday, September 16th, 2016 and you’ll see why he’s become an indie rock favorite.
Beautiful weather in the aesthetically charged box canyon of Telluride, Colorado made the perfect setting for an impressive showing by rising indie rock artist Israel Nash only to be made better by the guest appearance of Telluride Blues & Brews Festival veteran Jack O'Brien of The Bright Light Social Hour on bass.
Steve Itterly takes a ride with Gondola Sessions for an original song, "Fire & Floods Blues", inspired by the Four Mile Canyon outside of Boulder, Colorado when a series of fires and floods destroyed much of the area between 2010-2013.
Steve Itterly takes a ride with Gondola Sessions for an acoustic version of his original song "I'm Gonna Find My Way Home". Itterly competed against five other finalists at the festival's Telluride Blues Challenge which earned him a premium Martin D-1GT guitar provided by Telluride Music Company, plus a Blues Stage spot next year's Telluride Blues & Brews Festival.
Take a ride with Eagle Eye Williamson and Gondola Sessions down the Telluride Gondola for an electric version of his song "I Don't Want To Be Alone" . Hailing from Austin, Texas, Eagle Eye is a one-man band who plays a guitar with one hand and a mini tambourine attached to a drumstick in the other.
Veteran artists from years ago at Telluride Blues & Brews Festival (2000 and 2003), brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson returned to Telluride mid-afternoon on September 17th with a fiery set including this rendition of "Drinking Muddy Water" which Luther played on a coffee can guitar.
North Mississippi Allstars featuring brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson alongside bassist Dominic Davis Telluride Blues & Brews Festival playing "Shake (Yo Mama)" right into "Eaglebird".
Gondola Sessions are back with another installment from the Telluride Gondola with Telluride Blues & Brews Festival artists The California Honeydrops! For their second song, the guys covered Sam Cooke's classic "That's Where It's At." Snappy licks over claps and great harmonies!
Samantha Fish is a force to be reckoned with. She blends polished guitar work and engaging vocals that cross genres from Blues to Rock to Country. She delivered a stand-out performance on the Main Stage which many consider to be a highlight from the 2016 Festival. Her guitar riffs are like flint on steel and her vocals go down smooth like a fine shot of whiskey. Watch her perform "Gone For Good" live from Telluride Blues & Brews Festival earlier this year on Sunday, Sept 18, 2016.
Samantha Fish sings with sweet ferocity combined with masterful guitar work and tight lyrics. The Kansas City, Missouri native easily stole the show on Sunday afternoon at Telluride Blues & Brews Festival. The crowd simply could not get enough as she commanded them through powerful guitar riffs and blazing vocals. Watch Samantha Fish perform "Highway's Holding Me Now" live from Telluride Blues & Brews Festival earlier this year on Sunday, Sept 18, 2016.

The festival came to a close on Sunday with some really special performances. The Relatives started off the day with some soulful gospel. Preservation Hall Jazz Band followed up with a lively set that had everyone in the park dancing. Low Volts played some dirty blues on the side stage before Anders Osborne rocked out. Karl Denson's Tiny Universe was amazing and John Hiatt & The Combo was mesmerizing. Finally, Melissa Etheridge blew everyone away with a 2hr plus set. What a perfect way to end the festival. Thank you to everyone that came this year and years past!
Saturday was a day to remember in Telluride Town Park. IBC Winner Selwyn Birchwood Band opened the day to the Grand Tasting with 56 microbreweries. The New Mastersounds brought some funk onto stage followed by the Rebirth Brass Band from New Orleans. Low Volts played a Campground Sessions spot while Kim Churchill and Laura Meyer played sets on the side stage. Otis Taylor Band graced us with one more appearance and Mickey Hart jammed out to some new and old tunes.
Friday was an epic day of music in Telluride, Colorado. So many talented musicians played here. Kim Churchill opened the day followed by another heavy set by The Bright Light Social Hour. James Bay played two side stage shows along with a Campground Sessions set. ZZ Ward sang that 'Dirty Shine' while Allen Stone brought his "hippie with soul" energy to the stage.
What a day! The Bright Light Social Hour opened with a bang, the Otis Taylor Band played the blues and Booker T. Jones finished out the night with everybody in the park 'feeling good' despite the rain showers. The sun is out today and we're ready for another big day of music in Town Park!
